ALOHA!
Guilty. I’m a sports geek. Strategy, Substitutions, Playoffs…I get into it. Too much. Geek world. So, pardon me, as I find myself using a sports term for this “Message From The Ex-President” letter. The term I find myself using is “lottery pick”. Every year, the first 14 players selected in the NBA draft are called “lottery picks”. The owners of the 14 teams that failed to make the playoffs enter a lottery to determine the order in which their teams draft college players to improve their rosters. During the college season, players who consistently played impressively prove they will get picked early in the draft and earn the label “lottery pick”. They are the cream of the crop. Many of them are first-year players. Newcomers that are awesome.

We had an impressive crop of new Newcomers this year. At meetings us board members would shake our heads in amazement thinking, “How lucky are we? So fun, so helpful, so kind….and so many!” Geeky me began thinking “lottery picks”.
The other day I overheard someone speak of seeing one of our new members at Trader Joe’s pushing a cart filled with delicious snacks. When asked about the snacks the new member said, “Oh these aren’t for me. I’m going to give them to the people who work at the front gate.” That random act of kindness is a small example of the kind of folk who clicked “join” on this website this past year. Lucky us. With their help we had a special year. (Oh yeah. You 2nd & 3rd year vets helped too….thank you…now go ice your knees.)
And now we move forward.
We are fortunate that Sue, Diane and the “new crew” (Dan, Vicky, & Bonnie G.) have stepped forward to become new board members. Let’s all remember to step forward and help them when needed.
It’s been fun.
Aloha,
Andrew
(I’ll still be around)
